Santa Venetia Floodwall Facts
Independent, plain-language information for the ~600 homes in the flood zone

About this effort

I'm William Tucker, a licensed California civil engineer (PE #26071) with 55 years of heavy infrastructure experience, including the Golden Gate Bridge seismic retrofit, BART, and the Bay Bridge. My specialty is exactly the kind of construction this project requires: sheet pile walls, cofferdams, and deep foundations in San Francisco Bay Mud.

I also live at 70 Vendola Drive. My home is in the flood zone. When the levee breached on January 3, 2026, the water that came through affected my neighborhood — and the assessment the County is preparing would land on my tax bill too.

Why an independent effort is needed

About 600 homes in Santa Venetia sit in the high-risk flood zone — roughly a third of the neighborhood. Yet after five years:

The existing oversight channels have not closed these gaps. Affected homeowners deserve an independent technical reading of the public record — and a way to act on it together.

What this site is — and is not

The position in one sentence: before residents are asked to tax themselves for a design that has been stuck for five years, the County should obtain an independent third-party engineering review — of the current design and of the alternatives.
